Dangerous Situation

The young girl panted heavily as she hid into an empty crate; she felt like she had been running forever from the enormous
feline only known as Macavity. Everything had happen so quickly, which brought a stabbing pain into her heavy heart as the
memories began to stir wildly in her head. The child recalled when both her parents were fighting off the enormous feline’s
minions, but failed as the creature slashed them through with his claws. She could still see their bloodied faces, frozen
with fear as the enormous creature slinked towards her; but without hesitation she quickly ran past the feline with hardly
a scratch and towards the street. The girl could hear him close behind her, he was nearly upon her until she slipped onto
a steep hill and began to slide down towards a strange junkyard. After one or two tumbles, the child quickly ran into the
crate and hid until she could continue onwards…
But to where? Her home was now gone, her parents along with it and her belongings except for the clothes on her back and
the ankh around her neck. Still shaking from fright, she pushed back a strand of her long black hair and tucked it behind
her ear, wondering why that creature was after her. The cold night air made her tremble as she wrapped her arms around herself;
she then peeked through the small hole in the crate, praying that the creature known to her now as Macavity was now gone.
Silence hung in the air as the moon illuminated the starless sky, the sight of it brought her to tears, remembering that small
moment in time when her family would stare at the sky for hours on end. Trying to wipe the tears from her eyes, the ten-year
old child thought to herself, “All right Sakura, you’re on your own now. No one’s here to help you; now
all I need to do is find a place for the night and everything should look clearer in the morning.”
Creeping out from the crate, she began to walk through the junkyard, hoping to find some sort of temporary home to stay in
for the night. A sudden crash made her heart jump; fearing that it was Macavity again, she began to run for her life. Sakura
felt her heart hammer hard against her chest as the cold air slammed into her body like a million knifes. All of a sudden,
she felt herself loose her footing as she fell into another ditch, screaming at the top of her lungs in hope that someone
would come to her aid and be her hero.
Munkustrap was out on his usual patrol after everyone else went home or to their rightful posts. It was his duty as the tribe’s
protector to make sure that no danger would pass him and harm the ones he cared for most, especially his mate Demeter. Whenever
he began to feel lonely, he would allow her face to enter into his mind thus putting him at ease. He was snapped back into
reality when he heard a scream piercing his ears. Without hesitation he followed the source, what made him stop in his tracks
though was the scent; it didn’t smell like Macavity nor another Jellicle Cat, in fact, it smelled like a human. He
then heard small footsteps which sounded like limping, quickly he hid behind one of the abandoned tires as he awaited for
the human to appear. He was surprised though that it was a human child appearing under the moonlight. She had dirt smudges
all over self and she was limping on her right leg, most likely when she fell. The protector could her panting hard, most
likely from running…
Running from what though? Suddenly she fell to her knees in pain, tears streaming down her face as she curled herself up
into a ball and sobbed. The memories of what had occurred made her cried even more thinking to herself, “Why me? Why
my parents? Why is this all happening to me?!”
Munkustrap felt his heart soften at the sight, understanding that she needed a friend now. Quietly he approached the sobbing
child, being careful not to surprise her in any way. The child could hear his footsteps as she looked up in alarm; fearing
that it was one of Macavity’s henchmen, she tried to scurry away but the pain in her leg kept her down. He could read
her eyes, telling him that she was afraid. He smiled gently as he knelt to her height in his soothing voice, “Don’t
be afraid young one, I’m not going to harm you. I just want to help.”
Sakura just stared at him what seemed like forever, the silence hanging between them was almost eerie. The child lowered
her gaze, still too afraid to look at him despite his words. He could sense it right off, but he cupped her chin with his
paw and lifted her face to gaze into her eyes. The girl suddenly felt her fear melt away as she read the expression on his
face, knowing now that he meant true to his word. She heard herself sob in relief as she buried her face into his breast
fur, glad now that she was safe.
Munkustrap wrapped his arms around her trembling body, he was surprised how cold she felt. He placed his paw on her forehead,
but quickly withdrew when he noticed how warm it felt; she was burning, most likely because she had been out in the cold for
so long. He suddenly felt her coughing hard, her breathing became labored as she buried herself more into his fur. The feline
knew he had to get her to Jennyanydots quickly before she became worse. Quickly he scooped her into his arms and began to
run towards the small infirmary that she ran. The lights were still on, no doubt that she was attending to Tumblebrutus who
came down with a small cold. He felt a rush of warm air when he entered into the infirmary, calling out the Gumbie Cat’s
name, “Jenny! Are you here?”
“Just a minute love! I’ll be right out!”
He felt the child curl up more in his arms, shivering violently. Before he could say a word though the Gumbie Cat appeared
on the scene as she mopped her brow with a small towel, “Sorry about that, Tumblebrutus refused to take his medicine
so I-“
She stopped in mid-sentence when she saw the human child in his arms, the sight almost took her breath away. She stepped
closer to get a better look as she spoke in a soft voice, “A human? This in almost unreal; how did she get here Munku?”
“I’m not sure, I found her just a few moments ago, her leg is injured as well from running.”
“From what though?”
“I’m not sure, I was hoping maybe you can look after her until I’m done patrolling the junkyard.”
“Of course, it’s a good thing I read about humans.”
He placed the child into her arms, but the girl grabbed onto his paw, afraid to leave him. She spoke in between her coughs,
“Please, don’t *cough cough* go, I don’t *cough* want to be *cough cough* left alone.”
The protector smiled as he gently stroked the top of her head, “Don’t worry, I’ll return as soon as I’m
done with the patrol and checking up on my mate. You have my word.”
She gave a small smile as Jennyanydots responded, “I’ll put her with Tumblebrutus; he’s asleep now thanks
to the medicine he had earlier.”
He gave a nod as he quickly left the two alone. Sakura gave another hard cough, all while remembering the events that occurred
which kept her on her guard.
Demeter watched out the window patiently for her mate, her tail twitching in anticipation. They had been courted not long
ago, which was all the more reason she would stay up late just to be in his welcoming arms. She then saw him making his way
towards the den, causing her to smile as she leapt towards the door. Once it was opened, she embraced him in a tight hug
as he nuzzled her mate under his chin, “Welcome back! I was beginning to wonder if you would return from your shift.”
Gently he grasped her shoulders with a sigh, “I have to get back to the infirmary Demeter.”
“But why? You just got back.”
“I know, but we have another patient with Jennyanydots that needs my attention at the moment.”
“Well, I’ll just go with you then. No reason for me to stay here alone while you’re helping another patient.”
He couldn’t help but chuckle as he gave her a quick kiss on the lips, “All right, if that’s what you want.
But we have to leave now.”
“Fine with me.”
Sakura tossed and turned in the bed, the fever making her feel uncomfortable. Jennyanydots had given her some medicine but
she felt like it was taking forever to kick in. It was even worse to know that she had sprained her ankle from the fall,
making it even harder to fall asleep, that and still in fear that Macavity would kill her in her sleep. As she sat up, she
saw the door open to reveal her rescuer and his mate entering into the room. Demeter felt her jaw drop open as she saw the
child gazing at them, even her heart melted as the human pulled the covers over her legs. Munkstrap sat on the edge of the
bed as he asked, “How are you feeling?”
She gave a small moaned as she adjusted her position, “A little better, maybe worse, I don’t have a clue.”
He felt her forehead once more and sighed with relief; her fever had down some meaning that she was on a quick road to recovery.
She glanced at the female feline and asked, “Who’s this?”
“Sorry about that, introductions are in order; this is my mate Demeter. Demeter this is-“
He quickly paused, realizing that he didn’t know her name, “I’m sorry, but I don’t recall hearing
your name.”
The girl gave a small smile as she spoke, “Sakura; it means ‘cherry blossom’ in Japanese.”
Demeter shook her hand with a smile, “It’s a pleasure to meet you young one. I hope my mate here has made your
stay somewhat comfortable.”
The young child went into another coughing fit and clutched her chest tightly, it seared with pain from all the running earlier
along with the illness. The young female feline rubbed the girl’s back as she spoke softly, “Easy now, just take
slow deep breaths and you’ll be fine.”
The girl stared at her for a moment, but she still clutched her chest as she spoke, “It hurts to breath, it’s
almost like someone’s pulling at my lungs.”
Munkustrap placed a comforting paw on her shoulder, “Don’t worry, the medicine will kick in and you’ll soon
be fast asleep.”
“You’ll be staying here tonight, won’t you?”
Both felines stared at each other for a moment or two, then Demeter gave her a smile as she spoke, “I think Jenny will
make an exception for tonight. In the meantime get some rest while I go talk to her.”
Once she left the room, Sakura slowly laid back down on the pillow despite the pain in her leg; she then gave another cough
that shook her body, thus Munkustrap stroked her forehead trying to calm her down, “You’re afraid of something
aren’t you?”
She glanced up as she caught her breath, “I guess.”
“What are you afraid of?”
In a soft voice she spoke, “That the creature will attack me again.”
Munkustrap stared at her in surprised; he felt a familiar pang in his heart, he hoped he was wrong, “What’s the
creature’s name?”
“Before I ran outside, I heard him scream out ‘Macavity!’”
He felt a small growl escape his throat, just hearing that name brought back memories of his many encounters with The Napoleon
of Crime. He quickly controlled his anger as he asked the child, “Do you know of any reason why he would want to harm
you?”
She shook her head slowly as her eyelids began to droop; she tried to force herself to stay awake as she spoke in a sleepy
tone, “I just don’t want anyone else to get hurt because of me, or worse.”
He cupped her cheek as he spoke softly, “Nothing will happen to you as long as we’re around; that I can promise
you. In the meantime, try to get some rest, things will look better in the morning.”
Sakura gave a small smile as she buried her head into the pillow and fell fast asleep, dreaming of tomorrow
Macavity sprawled onto his concrete bed as he picked the flesh clean of the fish bones. He was in quite a fowl mood since
he failed to capture the child for his “employer”; he didn’t why he hired him and his minions to capture
a human child, besides the fact that she carries something of great value. Once he was done his dinner, he smelled a familiar
but unpleasant scent in his nostrils, he had no need of glancing over his shoulders to see who it was, “If you’re
here to complain to me about the mission Lucifer, do it somewhere else you bleeding sod.”
That was the worse thing he could do; at the very moment he felt a huge paw enclose around his neck and lift him off the ground.
Lucifer forced him around so he could look at his reddish-yellow eyes. He was at least a foot taller then Macavity with black
fur and a thick mane to complete the look along with a scar traveling across his jaw line. He bared his fangs at the Hidden
Paw as he spoke, “You were suppose to capture the object around her neck, not try to slaughter her like a fish.”
“Well, there were complications-“
“Enough with your pitiful excuses; the next time you plan to hunt the child down, you have better succeed.”
He slammed Macavity down and turned on his heel to leave. As he caught his breath he murmured under quietly, “Bleeding
sod, you’ll get yours.”
As the sunbeams crept through the windowpanes, Sakura awoke with a jolt and a small scream. She was dreaming of her parents
and Macavity again, but another character was thrown into the mix; when she saw him, she knew straight off he was far more
evil then Macavity himself. She hugged herself as she gave a small cough; glancing around the room she spotted Munkustrap
and Demeter curled up another bed, then glanced over her should to see Tumblebrutus just waking up from his slumber. He looked
towards the child and was quite shocked, for he had never seen a human before, “What the-who the-?!”
Sakura cocked her head in confusion as he examined her from head to toe, trying to figure out what she was. Once he was through
he asked, “Do you have a name?”
“Yeah, I’m Sakura. And you are?”
“Tumblebrutus. When did you get here?”
“Last night, Munkustrap saved me.”
“Oh. Well, best be off, nice meeting you.”
As he left the room, the child stiffly tried to get out of the bed, but the pain in her ankle wouldn’t allow her. She
stifled a scream as she limped towards the window to get a better look outside; what she saw almost took her breath away.
True it was a junkyard, but it looked more like a small village that she would read in her story books; plus everywhere she
looked she saw many unique Jellicle Cats strutting around with their business.
She felt a paw on her shoulder making her jump; she turned around to see Munkustrap staring at her with a smile, “Feeling
better I see?”
“Kind of, there’s still the matter of the ankle here.”
“Not a problem, Jenny left a pair of crutches you could use until you’re fully healed. Besides that, we’ll
be seeing Old Deuteronomy today.”
“Who’s he?”
“The leader of the Jellicle Cats, and the wisest amongst us. He wants to get to know you better, that’s all.”
She nodded in silence as she placed the crutches under her arms, then saw Demeter walking towards them with a smile, “Taking
her to Old Deuteronomy eh?”
“Of course.”
“That’s fine, I’ve got plans with Bombalurina today anyway. Have fun love!”
As the two left the infirmary, Sakura couldn’t help but feel that everyone was eying her, making the child feel a little
nervous. They seemed friendly enough, but she didn’t like the fact that they gawked at her like a circus freak. The
protector could feel her anxiety and tried to reassure her, “There’s nothing to worry about; they just want to
learn more about you.”
Before she could say a word, a pair of felines with wide grins appeared right before their eyes causing the child to yelp
in surprise; the two felines said in unison, “The notorious cats have returned!”
Munkustrap sighed as he rubbed his paw over his face in annoyance, “Mungojerrie, Rumpleteazer, now is not the time for
one of your tricks.”
Rumpleteazer place her paws on her hips in a huff, “Well! We jus’ wanted to let ya know that we brought some
more tuna back that’s all!”
Mungojerrie then saw the child clutching her crutches tightly from shock, he gave a wide grin as he took her hand and gave
it a great shake, “Pleasure meetin’ a newcomer! What’s your name?”
“S-Sakura….”
“Nice ta’ meet ya! If ya need anythin’ at all, just call us!”
She stared at the two as they made off with their treasures, still wondering of those two could be trusted at all. Shaking
off the thought she followed the protector further towards a strange den, most likely where Old Deuteronomy stayed. As she
began to climb the ramp towards his den, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of calmness and peace taking over her; possibly,
she thought, that their leader was someone who was kind and just.
Entering into the den, Sakura felt some of her fears lifted off her shoulders as she gazed into the leader’s eyes.
He turned his focus onto Munkustrap as he asked, “Is this the child you were preferring to?”
“Yes, the one that Macavity was after.”
Just the name made her tremble; Old Deuteronomy sensed it as he spoke, “Step forward young one.”
Slowly she approached the leader and gave a slight bow of her head; she then felt his paw tip her chin upwards as he spoke
once more, “I can sense you have lost many loved ones just this past night, haven’t you?”
She breathed deep, steeling herself, “Yes sir.”
“And is it also true that Macavity was the one who slaughtered them?”
She stiffened at first but responded, “Yes sir.”
“Do you know of any reason why he did that? Or why he’s after you for that matter?”
She blinked back threatening tears from her eyes as she continued, “I don’t know. It just happened so fast that
I didn’t see it coming. And when he saw me I-“
The words were caught in her throat, she was unable to finish the story as she tilted her head down and a small tear traveled
down her cheek. Old Deuteronomy wiped the tear away with his paw and laid it on her head, he then spoke in a soft tone, “You
have no need to say anymore. In the meantime though, you need someone to take care of you, like if you his or her own child.”
She looked up at him as she balanced herself on her crutches, “But who?”
He glanced towards Munkustrap and spoke, “Him and Demeter of course.”
Munkustrap felt his jaw open and close numerous time in shock, he didn’t see that one coming. He took a step towards
the leader and asked, “Me? You want Demeter and I to care for Sakura?”
“Of course, she has already grown attach to you, and you are the only one she feels she can trust.”
Sakura stared at the protector for a moment, fearing that he would say no. Instead he placed a paw around her shoulders and
spoke with a hint of pride in his voice, “It would be an honor Old Deuteronomy.”
Both her and the leader smiled, then a loud crash made the trio nearly jump out of their skins. The protector signaled them
to stay put as he went outside; but being such a stubborn child she followed anyway, but not before she felt a huge paw grasp
her shoulder and turning her around. The leader gave her a stern look as he spoke, “You need to stay here where it’s
safe.”
“But-!”
“You have to trust his judgment.”
She hated to admit it, but she knew he was right. Before she could say anything though, Munkustrap entered into the den dragging
along with him The Great Rumpus Cat.
She stared at the comic-book like character as he struggled to stand up, he acted though like he was getting over a hangover.
He gave a soldier’s salute as he spoke, “Rumpus Cat reporting for duty!”
She couldn’t help but laugh at his comical ways, it was the first time she had a good laugh for quite some time. His
fireball like eyes turned towards her and his “mane” stood up on end, most likely to say that he was alert and
ready for action. Munkustrap rolled his eyes as he spoke, “It turns out that our friend here believed there was danger
in the junkyard; so he decided to go through every den here and made a crash landing onto one of the old cars.”
Old Deuteronomy turned his gaze back to the creature, “Is this true?”
“Well-you could say that-that is to say-“
“Yes?”
“I couldn’t help but find out if the rumors were true about a human being hunted down by Macavity; and since I
see the creature before me, well, the rumors seem true.”
Sakura gave a pout as she limped towards The Great Rumpus Cat, trying to see him eye to eye, “I have a name you know!
It’s Sakura! And I don’t appreciate being called ‘creature’!”
He backed away in some fright, but also of surprise that she would have the nerve to stand up to him. He gave a small huff
as he retorted, “Well! This child should learn some manners! But no matter, I have to get back to my duty; Rumpus
Cat, away!”
He leapt out of the den as he hummed his own theme song, leaving the three speechless. The protector broke the silence with
a chuckle and the leader joined in as well as the child. Munkstrap then took the child’s shoulder as he said, “We
should be heading back to the den. Most likely you’ll see many other Jellicle Cats walking in to see you.”
Sakura turned her gaze back to the old feline and bowed slightly, “It was pleasure meeting you sir.”
Old Deuteronomy gave a smile as he bowed his head in respect. As the duo left the den, Sakura felt like everyone was just
gawking at her again. She lowered her gaze as she followed the protector’s lead, until she saw the youngest of the
Jellicle’s approach her with some shyness in her voice, “Hi, I’m Jemima. I heard you just entered into
the Junkyard last night, what’s your name?”
As she looked up at the feline, Sakura couldn’t help but smile, “I’m Sakura.”
The child took her paw and shook it warmly, then the other members began to crowd around the trio with curiosity. Before
she could say a word though, a flash of pain ran in her chest; clutching it tightly she fell to her knees, not even noticing
that her necklace was faintly glowing. Munkustrap and Jemima tried to help her up as she gasped for breath. That was when
a thought occurred to her:
Her memory began to stir towards the past night, when she felt the same pain before Macavity came. Struggling to breath she
stuttered the words, “M-Ma-Macavity’s here!”
Soon enough all of them sensed it and they scattered to all points of the Junkyard. Munkustrap quickly told the child, “Go
with Jemima! She’ll keep you out of harm’s way!”
“But what about you?!”
“I’ll be all right, just do as I say!”
The young feline grasped her shoulders as they ran into one of the old concrete pipes. Glancing out, Sakura recognized the
Hidden Paw as he collided with Munkustrap with a yowl. Both the feline and the girl watched in horror as they gave it their
all, tooth to tooth, claw to claw. Flashes of the girl’s parents ran through her head, still seeing their bloody faces;
she couldn’t bear the thought if the same fate waited for the protector. Jemima then gave a loud gasp, she saw Macavity
raise Munkustrap in the air with one paw as he hissed through his teeth, “Where’s the human? I know you have
her hidden somewhere.”
He struggled for breath as he glanced into the pipe, seeing the horrified look on the child’s face. With a growl he
swung his leg at his arm with a loud crunch; the Hidden Paw yowled in pain and allowed the protector to flop to the ground.
As he was catching his breath though, Macavity raised his claws in midair, ready to strike. Though as he attacked, he felt
something hard and metallic make contact with his paw. He once more howled in pain as he glanced down to see Sakura balancing
on one crutch while using the other one as a weapon.
She didn’t understand where her new inner strength had come from, but she was determine not to let anyone else get hurt.
“Leave him alone! You’re not laying a single paw on anyone else!”
Macavity gave a laugh that sent chills down her spine, he raised his paw once more to strike, until another form tackled him
to the ground. She couldn’t quite make out who it was, but she knew that whoever it was had sent the creature running
off. When the necklace’s glow faded, Sakura felt her strength quickly drain and almost collapsed to the ground, but
not before someone caught her. The child glanced up to see a thick golden mane brushing against her hair as it spoke, “Man,
that was close. You all right darling?”
She looked into his face and almost blushed as he flashed a quick smile. She pushed a lock of hair behind her ear as she
spoke, “Y-yeah, I am now.”
“Good to know. By the way, the name’s Rum Tum Tugger.”
Gently he lifted her to her feet as Jemima helped Munkustrap, who was still quite dizzy from the fall. The child wrapped
her arms around the protector’s waist in relief; he could feel her shaking violently like before, but only it was out
of fear. He grasped her shoulders as he spoke, “It’s all right now, the danger has passed.”
Rum Tum Tugger glanced at the two curiously as he asked, “Will she be okay?”
“In time, for now she just needs rest.”
“Guess I’ll lend a hand; besides, you could use the rest yourself.”
He nodded in agreement as his brother carried the child while Jemima helped the protector back to the den.
A number of thoughts ran through his head, but the most important question of all was how Sakura new danger was nearby? It
didn’t make any sense whatsoever. The younger feline could sense his mood and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing really.”
As they entered into the den, Jemima quickly got some medicine for some of the claw marks on Munkustrap while Rum Tum Tugger
helped Sakura to a bed to sit on. The pain in her chest had faded away, but just the thought of seeing her enemy face to
face once more just shook her to the core. He noticed the look on her face as he asked, “You sure you’re okay?”
She glanced up quickly and responded, “Yeah, just tired.”
“Still shaken up though?”
She shook her head in response as she clutched her pendant tightly, he then placed a comforting paw on her shoulder and said,
“There’s nothing to worry about; your in good paws-er, hands.”
Her face redden as she thought to herself, “He’s actually kind of cute, for a Jellicle Cat.”
He glanced back at his brother after his wounds were taken care of and said, “I’m heading out, I still have to
find something for Bomb for our anniversary.”
“That’s fine, I can take it from here.”
He nodded in response and left; Jemima was the next to speak, “I should be going to, Victoria and I made plans to help
papa with the train tonight. But if you need anything just give a shout.”
Munkustrap and Sakura were finally left alone; silence hung in the air between once again. He sat on the edge of the bed
with a sigh, “So, that was unexpected today.”
The girl remained silent as she squeezed the pendant tighter, her foe’s face still lingering in her mind. He edged
himself closer and asked, “Tell me this though, how did you know that Macavity was near?”
Releasing the grip on her necklace, she took a deep breath to steel herself, “Before he invaded the house, I felt this
pain in my chest and I didn’t know what it was. It immediately left once he came and-“
She paused to regain her composure, not wanting to fall apart again, “-and killed my parents. The same thing happened
again when he was near the Junkyard, that’s how I knew.”
“Maybe he knows you have some sort of power?”
She stared at him in surprise, “How’s that possible? I don’t have any magical powers or anything like that.”
“What about that pendant around your neck?”
The child glanced at the ankh for a moment or two, still letting her mind wonder, “I don’t know, I’ve had
this thing for as long as I can remember. I know my parents were going to let me in on the secrets of this before-“
She clutched the pendant tightly once more as the painful memories stirred; Munkustrap saw her expression as he wrapped his
paw around her shoulders. Sakura didn’t want to fall apart again, but the events of the night before and of today were
taking an emotional toll on her. She looked up at the protector as she spoke in a soft voice, “When I saw what he was
about to do to you, I just couldn’t stand by and let it happen again; I just-“
The child buried her face into his fur, letting the tears fall freely as he held her in his embrace. As he held her, he understood
now what she was feeling: a sense of abandonment, loss of family, loss of everything. He nuzzled the top of her head as he
spoke, “We’ll get through this together, I can promise you that.”
Macavity punched the wall hard, and he left quite a mark on it. If he could kick himself, he would have; he was defeat by
two felines and a child! And a crutch! He couldn’t put his paw on it, how was he defeated by a child as well, who
was on crutches?! The thought of it angered him more as he clawed at some of the beat up furniture, until he felt a pain
in his side that knocked him off his feet. After landing face first he glanced up to see Lucifer standing over him, still
looking quite unhappy. He grabbed a fistful of his mane and pulled him off hard, “You’ve failed me again! Only
this time you were defeated by two other felines and a child! And you still failed to capture the item that I want!”
The Hidden Paw glanced up at him with a snarl as he retorted, “It would help though if you told me what the item was!”
The enormous creature flung him to the ground, his tail twitching in annoyance. He sighed as he ran his claws through his
mane as he spoke, “Have you ever heard of the Egyptian symbol known as the ankh?”
Macavity gave him a look of confusion, “Yes, but what does that have to do with the child?”
He snarled as he knelt to his height, “Everything. There were only a few pendants like hers that carried extraordinary
power, and that child is carrying one of them.”
“So you’re telling that you only want the pendant, that’s it? And second, what kind of power are we talking
about?”
Lucifer gave a toothy grin as he responded, “That’s the beauty of it all, it can give you unlimited power. Imagine,
the chance to control the race of man and other species at tip of your claws; ruling the entire world with that much power
can be intoxicating.”
Macavity let every word sink in, trying to image himself with that pendant and ruling all of creation. The enormous black
feline stood up on his feet as he spoke, “Which is the reason why I want you to capture this child. If she understood
how to use that power, who know what would happen.”
“The problem is that her new friends are on guard at all times; it’s almost impossible.”
He only sneered as he began to leave, “That’s your problem, not mine. I’ll give you one last chance Macavity.
Fail me again though, your life will belong to me.”
Once he was gone, the Hidden Paw stretched himself out on the beat up sofa with a sigh. As he began to wonder off into sleep,
he was already plotting a way to capture the child and how to deal with Lucifer.
It had been only a few weeks since Sakura became apart of the tribe, and yet she felt like she had known every one of them
all her life. She had bonded with all of them in different ways. Jemima for example was like the big sister she never had,
Skimbleshanks was like an uncle and Rum Tum Tugger-well, he was between a crush and a big brother. She was still on her guard
though if Macavity was to reappear, even with everyone helping her out she felt though there was still another player in the
game. Munkustrap and Demeter have also been incredible guardians, from her point of view, her life seemed almost normal.
But the only thing that had bothered her the most was this: How could she have magical powers? More importantly, why her
of all people? She couldn’t place her finger on it. All this and more ran through her mind as she walked through the
Junkyard, until her thoughts were interrupted by a puff of smoke that made her shout in surprise. As the smoke faded away,
it revealed the Magical Mistoffelees acting quite perky. Sakura glanced at him for a moment as she tried to slow her breathing
down and asked, “What was that for?! You nearly scared me to death!”
He gave an apologetic bow and said, “Forgive me, I’ve been testing out some new spells that allows me to teleport
to other places besides parts of the Junkyard.”
She gave him a confused look, “Really? What other places?”
“Like your world for example, maybe even another universe!”
As she was talking, she suddenly felt a pair of arms wrap around her body and lift her from the ground as a playful voice
spoke, “Found you!”
She glanced over her should and laughed, “Okay Alonzo! You can put me down now!”
The feline gave a wide grin as he placed the child down; as she fixed her hair she asked, “Did you need something or
what?”
“Truth be told, I actually found something that might interest you.”
Mistoffelees and the girl stared at each other for a moment, trying to figure out what he was trying to say. The magical
cat questioned him, “What do you mean? Does it have something to do with her necklace?”
“Actually it does; it turns out Cassandra has a few books based upon Egyptology, one of them concerning about the necklace.”
Sakura perked up when he mentioned her jewelry; could it actually give her the answer she needed? Especially about the new
player? Snapping herself back to reality she asked Alonzo, “Do you have that book with you?”
“I’m afraid not, but we can stop by Cassandra’s den to pick it up.”
“That’s fine, thanks.”
Before she left she waved farewell to the magical cat, in response he gave a slight bow and disappeared into a puff of smoke.
Munkustrap nosed through the outskirts of the Junkyard along with Pouncival, hoping to find some evidence if Macavity had
been around and when he was planning to strike. Deep in the protector’s mind though, he was more concern about Sakura
and Demeter then anything else, knowing for a fact that both of them have been affected by the Hidden Paw. He suddenly heard
his comrade’s voice call out to him, “Munku! I think I found something!”
He raced towards his comrade’s side to see what he had found, only to discover he was holding something black. He glanced
into the feline’s paws and asked, “Is this is?”
“Yeah, but there’s something different about this fur; something just doesn’t click here.”
“What do you mean?”
“Usually Macavity’s around this area, and only him. But it seems that someone else decided to enter in.”
Munkustrap felt his heart skip a beat; he had a feeling that this meant trouble. Glancing at Pouncival he asked, “Do
you think Mistoffelees could find out what it is?”
“Well obviously he could! Why do you ask?”
“I just have this feeling that there’s a new feline on the prowl, and it could be another enemy to fight.”
Sakura was deep into the book that Cassandra had loaned her, and she was soaking up every word in it. Demeter started to
become curious, trying to understand if it was normal for a human to study so much. Jellylorum was in the next room sipping
some tea as she asked, “How long has Sakura been sitting there?”
“Almost three hours straight, she’s completely absorbed in that book.”
“Well, at least she’s not stealing food from other people’s home like Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer.”
“True-“
She was interrupted with a knock on the den’s door, glancing over her shoulder she shouted, “Who is it?”
“Admetus!”
As she opened the door, she noticed the exhausted look on his face as though he had been running. He finally caught his breath
as he spoke, “Sorry to intrude, but Old Deuteronomy’s calling a meeting.”
“Now? About what?”
“I don’t know, but it sounds urgent.”
Demeter nodded in agreement; she then went towards the child and gently shook her shoulder, “Sakura? We have to go,
Deuteronomy is calling a meeting and everyone has to go. In other words, put the book down.”
The child glanced up from the pages with a sigh and said, “My eyes do need a break; I just hope everything’s
all right.”
As they gathered around the old tire, the Jellicle’s were buzzing here and there trying to figure out what the problem
was. Sakura tried to stand on the tips of her toes to see who else was up there, but do to her size she was failing. Bombalurina
saw this and said with a smile, “Hold on a second.”
She hoisted the child onto her shoulders and said, “That better?”
“Yeah, thanks.”
The child could suddenly see Munkustrap and Pouncival with grim looks on their faces. “Something’s not right here,
not if those two are there,” she thought to herself. The leader quieted the group with a wave of his paw and spoke,
“It seems that another feline, similar to Macavity has entered into the Junkyard. This means we must be on our guard
in case this new enemy decides to enter into our home and cause trouble.”
A mummer began to grow among the crowd, each one trying to put a face to the new enemy. Munkustrap then handed the piece
of fur to Mistoffelees and asked, “Do you think you can find out who it is?”
”I can’t guarantee any promises, but I’ll do what I can.”
The group became silent as he began to chant some sort of spell; but almost immediately he yelped in pain and dropped the
fur to the ground, his paw burning painfully. Pouncival grasped his paw to examine it as he asked, “What happened?!”
“This creature….he’s extremely powerful……..but I wasn’t able to put a face to him…..”
As he was lead of the stage, Mungojerrie suddenly had an idea, “What about Sakura? Couldn’t she find out who
it is since she’s wearing that thing-a-ma-bob?”
She felt her heart go into her throat; why her? Munkustrap glanced at Old Deuteronomy with a questionable expression. The
leader gave a small sigh as he spoke, “It might be the only way to find out who he is at least. Sakura, will you please
come forward?”
The child slipped off Bombalurina’s shoulders as she slowly made her way towards the tire; she just couldn’t believe
of all people-or creature that she had to figure out who the new foe was. Once she made it to the tire, Munkustrap slowly
let the piece of fur drop into her small hands. The ankh suddenly began to glow brightly and she felt herself being engulfed
by the light. Several strange images moved quickly past her, making it harder for her to find the identity of this new intruder.
The child clenched the fur tightly as she forced herself to find the right owner, that was when she came to a screeching halt.
She suddenly heard a maniacal laughter fill the empty walls of her mind, causing her to cower in terror. She then heard the
name whispered harshly into her ear, a name that even made her stomach do flip-flops; then in a swift motion the creature
was standing before her with fangs bared and claws at hand, ready to tear her apart. She felt herself scream in fright as
the image disappeared and she fell to the ground unconscious.
As she slowly opened her eyes she could see the image of Munkustrap trying to rouse her; she gave a small moan indicating
that she was awake as he helped her to sit up. The image though of the creature was still fresh in her mind thus causing
her to cling to the protector in a panic like state. He grasped her shoulders as he spoke, “Calm down, I’m right
here.”
Her breathing became normal as he kept talking to her, but the name still lingered in the back of her mind like poison. She
glanced up into his face as he gently asked, “Were you able to find out who this feline is?”
She was hesitant at first, but with a small ounce of courage she spoke softly but loud enough for everyone to hear, “His
name is Lucifer.”
The group began to mummer among themselves again, but more of in fear. Old Deuteronomy silenced them once more as he spoke,
“We now know who we’re dealing with; in the meantime, everyone must be on their guard until we can find a way
to defeat him. Dismissed!”
As the tribe scattered across the Junkyard, Demeter and Munkustrap helped the child to her feet since she was still exhausted
from moments ago. Demeter was the first to ask, “Are you going to all right?”
Sakura glanced up at the two as she spoke in a shaky voice, “I guess so; but all I know is that this Lucifer is extremely
dangerous. There’s no doubt he’s joined up with Macavity so he can get what he wants.”
“And what is that?”
She lowered her gaze as she clenched her fist tightly, speaking ever so softly, “Me.”
Macavity and his minions crept slowly through the outskirts of the Junkyard; it had taken him some time to contemplate
a plan to capture the human, but he was certain that this time he would succeed. One of his minions the day before overheard
many of the young queens and the older ones as well were taking the human out for an “all girls day”, whatever
that meant. He knew that without the males around, it would be the perfect opportunity to use a sneak attack upon the females
so he could claim his prize. A chatter of voices broke him out of his thoughts, he turned to one of his minions to see where
the source was coming from. Looking over the edge of the ditch, he and his company spotted the females just walking and chatting,
unaware of the danger that was behind them. He grinned from ear to ear, knowing that the timing was impeccable and that the
time to attack was now. Quietly he signaled them to go around the edges, and to wait for his signal to make the attack.
As they hid, Macavity kept a close eye on the girl, praying that he wouldn’t be discovered.
“So you and Corpicat are physic?”
“Indeed, we have a special way of sensing the change in weather or when Old Deuteronomy comes to visit.”
“That’s pretty awesome.”
Sakura chatted away with Tantomile as the other females kept busy with there conversations; Rumpleteazer for example was giving
beauty advice to Cassandra, “I’m jus’ saying that a type of silver nail polish would make you stand out.”
“Really? I didn’t you had such….taste.”
“Meh, that’s what happens when you read a lot of fashion magazines I guess.”
Sakura couldn’t help but laugh along with the girls; she hadn’t had any good comrades for so long. She turned
towards Ecetra and asked, “So what do think makes Tugger…well, Tugger?”
“A lot of things! He dances really well, he has a wonderful singing voice, and that mane! He keeps it so clean and
everything! He is a god!!!”
The child felt herself blush at the thought, “I have to admit, he’s actually kind of cute.”
“You bet!”
Once they had a good laugh, the necklace began to glow brightly and the flash of pain returned to her chest. She collapsed
to the ground, gasping for breath. Electra helped her to stand as she asked, “What is it?!”
“I-It’s Macavity!”
Demeter suddenly panicked as she hid behind Bombalurina; all the females quickly assembled into an attack formation as Macavity
and his minions leapt out of there hiding places and surrounded them. He gave a low growl as he spoke, “Listen carefully
because I will make this offer once; hand over the child to me and I’ll let all of you go. Resist, and the consequences
will be painful.”
Jennanydots and Jellylorum hissed as they bared their claws as Exotica spoke, “You’ll have to go through us to
get to her!”
Sakura felt her heart go into her throat; she didn’t want them to suffer because of her. The Hidden Paw only sneered,
“If that’s how you want it-“
“WAIT!”
The females turned their attention to the human, the look in her eyes had changed from fear to courage, “Just leave
them out of this! If you want me, here I am!”
Demeter grasped her shoulders as she spoke, “What are you doing?! He’ll kill you!”
“He won’t! He wants me because of this necklace! Plus I don’t want anyone else getting hurt because of
me!”
The distraught queen went silent as she stared at the girl for several moments, unsure of what to say next. One of Macavity’s
minions though pushed her aside as he followed behind, his smile creeping to the corners of his face, “You’ve
made a wise choice child. It’s time to go.”
But as he reached down to grab her, Demeter made a sudden lunge at the Hidden Paw and tackled him to the ground. Her fur
bristled on end as she hissed and stood in front of the human, “Don’t you dare lay a paw on her! If you take
one step closer, I’ll kill you with my own claws!”
Sakura stared at her in surprise, despite how scared her guardian was she was unwilling to let her be held captive by this
foe. He gave a yowl as he leapt towards with this claws outstretched; the child knew that Demeter was in trouble as she suddenly
stood in front of her with a shout. She kept her eyes shut, awaiting the painful blow. But there was a sudden flash that
shielded the child thus causing the feline to bounce off and land onto one of his minions. Both the queen and the child stared
in shock, trying to figure out where the shield came from; the girl glanced to her necklace and noticed how bright it was,
knowing now that it was responsible for shielding them. Macavity stood up, his lips curled into a snarl, “YOU’LL
PAY FOR THAT HUMAN!”
He ran towards them again, but the power of the ankh shielded them once more; endlessly he tried to claw his way through,
but was failing miserably. Jemima suddenly saw her chance as she clawed at his legs, leaving deep marks that made him yowl
in pain. He raised his paw to swipe at her, but Bombalurina leapt onto his back and bit his neck hard.
He yowled in pain as he threw the female off, but soon he was invaded by all the queens of the tribe as they scratched at
him, not willing to give Sakura up. Macavity knew that he had been utterly defeated and that he had no choice but to retreat.
He quickly slipped out from the pile of angered queens and limped towards his minions; he glanced over his shoulders as he
spoke, “This isn’t over!”
With the help of his workers, Macavity limped away leaving the group of females alone. Demeter sighed in relief as the glow
from the necklace faded; Sakura felt her strength drain from her once more as she collapsed into Jemima’s arms. The
young queen gently roused the child as she asked, “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, just a little tired. The same thing happened last time when he was here.”
“Do you think he’ll come back?”
Jennyanydots interfered with the conversation, “We’ll worry about that later, in the meantime though we should
all head back to the Junkyard.”
They all nodded in agreement as they followed the older queens home, Jemima and Demeter though followed behind them slowly
as they helped Sakura climb the ditch. In the child’s mind though, she knew that even though Macavity was defeated,
there was still the matter of dealing with Lucifer himself.
Macavity laid exhausted on the beat up furniture while his minions attended to his wounds; he hated the fact that he lost
this time to a bunch of females! Then a familiar odor assaulted is nostrils that made his lips curl. Before he could react
though, a huge black paw sideswiped the minions hard and grabbed a fistful of his mane thus pulling him to his feet. He gave
a loud roar almost making the Hidden Paw deaf; he glanced into his yellowish-red eyes as his “employer” spouted,
“I see you were unsuccessful yet again.”
“I had everything planned-“
“I don’t want anymore excuses; I gave you one more chance and you failed. Now you have to pay the price.”
“Let me expl-“
He was silenced with a slash of his claws across his chest, causing the Hidden Paw to gasp in pain. He was roughly thrown
down to the ground as the blood began to pool around his already broken body. He glanced up to see Lucifer sneer in reply,
“I no longer have any needs of your services; farewell you bleeding sod.”
He gave him a powerful kick and sent him flying to one of the abandoned ditches below; as he glanced over the edge he saw
Macavity’s lifeless body finally come to a screeching halt. The black feline then turned to the minions as they began
to cower in fear, he only smirked as he replied, “From now on, you’re working for me.”
Victoria was just wrapping up the account of what had happened, leaving the males completely silent. Munkustrap glanced
at the White Queen with a look of concern as he asked, “And that was how it happened?”
“Yes, I don’t know how she did it, but somehow Sakura was able to shield herself and Demeter from Macavity’s
assault.”
The protector stared at the exhausted child, she was still somewhat tired since she was leaning against Jemima for support;
he went towards the duo and asked the child, “Is this true?”
Sakura glanced up as she spoke, “Yeah, every word of it.”
“And what of Macavity?”
“I don’t know, he was pretty beat up once he left. I don’t think we’ll see him for awhile.”
He nodded in agreement as he turned to Old Deuteronomy and asked, “What about this Lucifer? What are we to do about
him?”
The wise leader rubbed his muzzle in contemplation with a sigh, “I’m not entirely sure; but what concerns me though
is what power lies within that necklace, it must be extremely powerful if this foe wants to take it so badly.”
The Jellicles nodded in agreement, and then Skimbleshanks was the next to speak, “I think this will require quite a
wee bit of research; we’ll have a good chance of finding anything if we start as soon as possible.”
Rum Tum Tugger was next to chime in, “I have to agree with Skimble there; we should probably start early tomorrow morning
considering how late it is.”
Old Deuteronomy silenced the tribe with a wave of his paw, “Then it’s settled, tomorrow we’ll begin to conduct
our research on the necklace and of its hidden powers.”
There was a sudden thump outside that got the Jellicle’s attention. Mistoffelees peered outside to see what it was,
then leapt back in surprise almost knocking Tumblebrutus over, “IT’S MACAVITY!”
The felines began to panic as the surrounded their leader, but Sakura sensed there was something wrong, “Hold on a second!
Misto, are you sure that’s Macavity out there?”
“I just saw him with my own two eyes! Why do-“
“Because I would’ve sensed him by now! Whenever there’s danger the ankh lets me know, but I don’t
feel a thing. Something’s not right here!”
Despite how tired she felt she ran past the tribe and flew out the door; the child stopped dead in her tracks and gasped in
shock of the once ferocious feline. Her entire face went pale when she saw the path of blood trailing behind him, his breathing
was also extremely shallow as loud wheezes escaped from his half-slacked jaws. She saw Munkustrap and the others come up
from behind, and they too were taken aback of the horrid site. He knelt to the child’s height as he spoke, “Let
me handle this.”
She glanced at him and spoke, “No, let me.”
Before he could say anything, Sakura was already kneeling besides the body as she stroked his blood-soaked mane. The Hidden
Paw glanced up at the child, giving her a confused look as she tried to wipe the blood away from his face with an old rag,
“Why are you helping me? I’ve nearly killed you several times in the past month.”
She gave him a look of concern as she spoke, “Even though you’re not one of the greatest felines, that doesn’t
mean you should be treated like a piece of garbage.”
She could tell by the look in his eyes that he was dying, but yet that they were also sad and lonely. The child decided to
continue, “Did Lucifer do this to you?”
“You*cough cough* could say that.”
She felt her anger build up, just the thought of that creature doing this to anyone made her blood boil. The child quickly
regained herself as she gently grasped his paw, almost shocking everyone, “I’ll make this vow then; I’ll
get back at Lucifer what he did to you and what he wants to do the Jellicles. That I can promise you.”
He gave a small soft chuckle as he cupped her face, allowing a tear to escape from her eyes, she actually pitied the creature.
With a small gasp he said, “Please forgive me of what I had done. Plus make sure you beat that bleeding sod to a pulp
for me.”
She held his paw firmly but gently as she responded, “All is forgiven.”
With that he gave one last smile as she felt his heart finally stop beating. He was now at peace, nothing could hurt him
anymore. Slowly she closed his eyes as the bloody rag dropped to the ground; she then felt Munkustrap lay his paw on her
shoulder as he softly asked, “What do want to do with his body?”
Without looking she spoke in a shaky voice, “Just bury him someplace where he can have a view of the moon; he deserves
no less.”
He nodded in silence as he signaled some of the toms to help carry his body away, leaving the child steal kneeling in shock.
When Victoria tried to talk to the child though she merely responded, “Look, I just want to be left alone right now;
that includes everyone else.”
The White Queen nodded in response as she led the rest of the Jellicles away, all but Alonzo who knew that she actually needed
a shoulder to cry on. The child clenched her fist and bit her lip back as tears streamed freely down her face. The feline
sat besides the child as he asked, “You’re really going to keep that vow?”
She glanced at him from the corner of her eye as she softly responded, “Yes, it’s my fault that he was killed
by that thing; it’s the least I could do for him.”
“This isn’t your fault-“
“Yes it is! He’s attacking everyone that’s trying to protect me! He knows what he plans to do next; he
might even kill you or Old Deuteronomy for that matter!”
He was surprised of how quickly she responded, her eyes were still turned towards the ground as the tears made the dirt into
mud. He cupped her chin as he spoke, “Let me say this again, none of this is your fault. And we will stop at nothing
to help you stop this creature; yes we might get hurt, but won’t matter. We are your family now, and families always
help one another.”
The child looked at him teary eyed as she let his words sink in; she knew that he was right. With a sniffle she responded,
“You sound just like dad before he died, he gave me that same speech once.”
He gave a soft laugh as he spoke, “Well, that’s somewhat of an honor.”
Then in silent response, she leaned against his breast fur as she sobbed, allowing all of her sadness and anger to flow away
in his embrace under the moonlight.
The next morning the Jellicles were bustling about with piles of books based upon Egyptology, all except Sakura. She laid
curled under the covers, she had barely slept a wink since Macavity’s death. This had Demeter and Munkustrap concerned
so they stayed behind to look over the books Skimbleshanks had loaned them. The queen peeked into the room and sighed, still
in disbelieve that she hadn’t moved an inch. She felt her mate’s paw on her shoulder as he asked, “How’s
she doing?”
“Still the same; I think what happened last night had finally taken its toll on the poor girl.”
“She’ll have to move out of bed sooner or later.”
“Maybe you should try talking to her; she’s really attached to you after all like a father.”
He ran his claws on the back of his head with a sigh, she knew that she was right. He gave Demeter a quick kiss on the lips
as he spoke, “All right, I’ll give it a shot.”
He quietly entered into the room and saw the small human form breathing slowly, her form still curled up into a ball. He
sat on the edge of the bed and ran his paw through her hair as he spoke, “Are you awake young one?”
She responded with a nod; he gave a small sigh and asked, “Is it about last night?”
Another nod. The girl slowly began to sit up as her hair cascaded down her back. As she rubbed the sleep from her eyes she
asked, “What time is it anyway?”
“Almost eleven. You haven’t moved from bed since last night.”
“I guess I just had a lot of trouble sleeping, even after Alonzo talked with me.”
He pushed a strand of hair from her face as he asked, “Is there something else your afraid of?”
Without a single word, she curled up besides him and laid her tired head onto his arm. He cocked his head in question, still
awaiting his answer. She finally spoke but without looking into his face, “Losing this family, and you and Demeter.”
The protector felt his heart melt as she buried her face deeper into his fur, her words still lingering in the silence. He
cupped her face gently as he spoke, “I know you’re worried about that, but we are a strong race. There has never
been an enemy too strong that we couldn’t take on, and we always do it together; never forget that Sakura.”
The child looked up at him and smiled despite how sad her eyes were; she then wrapped her arms around his middle in a hug
as she spoke softly, “Thanks, for everything.”
He smiled and responded in the same matter and nuzzled the top of her head. They could suddenly hear a few voices in the
next room, one of them sounding like Corpricat, “That’s what it says right here! It’s quite-well-interesting.”
Both the protector and the human exited the bedroom and saw the twin cats talking to Demeter. The queen looked over her shoulder
and smile, “You’re awake, that’s good. Tantomile and Corpicat have something they want to show you.”
The twin cats turned at the same time while balancing the enormous book in their paws; Sakura sat between her guardians as
she allowed Tantomile to speak first, “It took us forever to find some information, but we think we’ve discovered
something relating to your ankh.”
Sakura’s eyes glinted with interest as she leaned in to hear more, “I’m listening.”
Corpicat was next to speak, “It says here that only a few of these ankhs were made since each one contains a different
type of power; during the next thousands of years though, they were all destroyed except for one, the one that you’re
wearing.”
The child immediately felt her own hand grasp the pendant tightly, suddenly becoming weary of the situation, “Just want
kind of power does it carry?”
His twin decided to speak once more, “Not only does it have the power to shield it’s owner and to give him or
her a great deal of strength, but the power to grant wishes.”
The girl felt her heart skip a beat as the words were repeated constantly in her head; the power to grant wishes, this was
something she didn’t see coming. Sitting up she gazed at Corpicat, “There’s a catch to it, isn’t
there?”
“Yes, it will only grant one wish and then it will completely lose its power forever.”
“Then what was the point of making it if it can only grant one wish?”
“The owner of the necklace will know when the time comes to make the right wish; that’s all it says here.”
She sighed as she slumped in her chair with disappointment, it just didn’t seem fair. Glancing up at the twins she
asked, “Are you sure there isn’t any information missing from that book?”
“Nope.”
“Well, thanks anyway.”
The twin cats nodded in reply as they left the den, leaving the trio alone. Demeter glanced at Sakura’s facial expression
and asked, “What now?”
“I guess…….I’m just going to get some air.”
As she left the couple alone, Munkustrap couldn’t help but sense that she needed to be alone for awhile, possibly until
she felt that things were clear to her.
Sakura sat on the old tire, her eyes gazing at the ground. Her mind kept lingering onto her necklace and the power it possessed,
but was still disappointed with the “wish” issue. She had many wishes, but was unsure of which was the “right”
wish; she was even unsure how it would effect her and her family. All that and more ran through her mind until a familiar
Scottish accent snapped her back into reality, “Is something wrong lass?”
The child looked up to see Skimbleshanks staring at her with his glass-green eyes while holding a cup of tea in one of his
paws. As she stood up she questioned the railway cat, “Did you know already about the ankh?”
“Just last night when I did some research of my own.”
”And of its powers?”
“Aye. Why all the questions?”
“I guess it’s because of the whole ‘one wish’ thing.”
She stifled a yawn as he set down his tea and sat next to her on the tire; he then motioned her to do the same as he asked,
“Is that the reason?”
She shrugged her shoulders as she sat on his lap, “Yeah, mainly because I’m just worried of how my wish might
affect me or everyone around me.”
He gave a soft chuckle as he clasped his paw on her shoulder, “Listen to me lass, when the time comes for you to make
that wish, there’s only one thing to listen to.”
“What?”
He pointed his paw to her chest, “Your heart. You’ll know what to do if you just listen to it.”
Sakura once more stifled a yawn as she gave him a smile, “I guess that could work…”
“Ayes, it works all the time. By the way, did you get any sleep at all Sakura? Sakura?”
He glanced down to see the child resting her head against his chest sound asleep. Skimbleshanks gave a soft laugh as he responded,
“I guess not.”
Carefully he lifted the child in a bride-like manner and carried her back to the den.
The black feline paced across the concrete floor, his minions trying to find the secrets behind the child’s ankh.
He knew he had to somehow gain the pendant into his possession, the question was how. She was completely surrounded by the
Jellicles at all time, making a capture would prove quite difficult. Yet she didn’t seem to fully contemplate the full
potential of her new found power; didn’t she realize she could rule the races of Jellicles and man alike? Didn’t
she know that she could use her powers to rule the world, or the universe? The child probably didn’t understand what
she was capable of, but he knew. All of his life since he was a young tom, he has studied the ancient Egyptian culture, mainly
in its dark arts. When he first learned about the ankh, he knew that this was his chance to test his own magic with the pendant.
Of course the problem was still there, the child. He clenched his fist in frustration as the thought stirred in his mind
more; then in one swift motion of his paw, a blast of dark energy scorched the wall right were Macavity punched it. One of
the minions suddenly tapped his shoulder nervously as he spoke, “E-e-excuse me Lucifer sir?”
He growled in annoyance as he glanced over his shoulder, “What is it?”
“I think I have an idea of capturing the child.”
He raised one of his brows in question, “Go on.”
“Why not try approaching the matter by threatening the Jellicles? The child would surely give in willingly then in
order to protect them.”
He narrowed his eyes at the minion, “And the other approach?”
“We could also try to kidnap Old Deuteronomy-the leader-in exchange for the child.”
He rubbed his muzzle in contemplation at the thought, he gave a small grin as he responded, “Those could possibly work,
but I’ll do it my way.”
“How sir?”
“Something like this, ‘Give the child to me or this will happen to you.’”
Without warning he blasted another shot of dark energy and the minion disintegrated right before his eyes. He smirked in
satisfaction as the other minions scattered about, praying that they wouldn’t be next. Running his claws through his
mane he looked up to the sky as he spoke to himself out loud, as if addressing to Sakura, “Just you wait little one,
I’ll be coming for you tonight.”
The child was curled up between Munkustrap and Demeter, her head resting on his lap. She was trying to catch up on what
sleep didn’t have, due to the fact that she hardly slept a wink the night before. The protector gently ran his paw
through her hair, admiring the fact that despite all she’s been through, she had the heart of a lion. Demeter nuzzled
her mate on his neck and playfully nipped at his ear, “You’ve grown quite fond of her, haven’t you?”
He gave her smile as he allowed his mate to lean on his chest, “You could say that; she tries to be strong but sometimes
needs someone to talk to. It’s amazing how human’s emotions affect their lifestyle.”
“I have to admit, she helped me with my fear of Macavity, and she’s almost like another sister to me.”
He felt the child stir a little, bringing another smile to his face, “You were right about one thing Dem.”
She glanced into his face in question, “About what?”
“How I’m like a father to her, and in a way, she’s like a daughter to me.”
Demeter smiled warmly and gave her mate small kiss on his cheek; he then lifted the sleeping human into his arms and placed
her on the bed, being careful not to rouse her from her slumber. He then tucked her in before she turned onto her side, her
small form rising and falling with every breath she took.
He leaned in quietly and gave her a small peck on her forehead before heading out of the room. Before he could close the
door though, he suddenly heard the child gasp in pain; fearing the worst he went to her beside and saw her clutching her chest
tightly trying to catch her breath. Munkustrap grasped her shoulders tightly as he asked her, “Who is it?!”
She glanced at his face as she tried to form the words, “I-I-It’s Lucifer!”
His eyes widen with fear at that very name, then he heard his mate’s voice calling out to him, “Munku! It’s
Asparagus!”
The child followed behind despite the amount of pain she was in, and saw Asparagus gasping for breath as well while he leaned
on the frame of the door. The brown tom gazed into the protector’s face as he spoke, “There’s an enemy
on the junkyard ground, I think it could be Lucifer!”
“Is there anyone with him?”
“Macavity’s minions, and they’re trying to round up the entire tribe!”
Sakura felt her heart go into her throat, her worst fears were coming true. Suddenly Munkustrap along with Demeter ran out
of the den while Asparagus stayed behind. He glanced at the girl as he spoke, “We better stay here, for your protection
anyway.”
She narrowed her eyes as she retorted, “Are you insane?! There’s only one reason why that thing is here! I’m
not going to let anyone else suffer because of me!”
In one swift motion she slid under the tom’s legs and ran to where the other Jellicles were being gathered together.
Quickly she hid behind an abandon crate, hoping to listen to the creature’s proposition. The child watched in fear
as he circled around the frighten group, except for a brave few who bared their fangs in claws for battle. He stopped in
mid-pace as he glanced at the small tribe; he gave a small smirk as he began to speak, “Listen carefully, and listen
well. I want to make a proposition for you, in order to spare your pitiful lives. As you’re aware of by now, the child
that you have in possession carries a powerful pendant with her, one that can change the course of history. This child is
unaware how to use it so I’ll make you all this offer: You willingly give the child to me, or be destroyed.”
To prove his point, he blasted his dark magic onto an empty trash bin, causing some of the younger Jellicles to cower behind
the brave warriors. Sakura felt her heart stop still for a moment, realizing now who she was dealing with. Munkustrap sauntered
to the rear with his fur sticking upright, his teeth bared in a snarl, “You’ll have to go through us to get to
her demon!”
Lucifer gave a cold laugh, sending chills down his spine. His expression quickly changed as he spoke, “Then you leave
me no choice-“
“NO!!”
The child appeared from behind the scene as she shielded the protector, catching the creature off guard. She felt no fear
as she began to speak to Lucifer, “I know what you came for, so leave them out of this! Just take me!”
The Jellicles stared at her in surprise, not knowing what to do next. Lucifer cupped her face with his paw, making her tremble
visibly. He gave another smirk as he responded, “You no longer have any fear of me? I kind of like that; so you’re
certain you can live with this sacrifice?”
“Yes, just as long as you don’t touch a single fur on them.”
“Very well, do you have any other requests?”
“Just let me say goodbye to them, one last time.”
“Make it as fast as possible child.”
She turned to the sad faces of the tribe, almost tearing her heart out. One by one she embraced them all goodbye as tears
ran down their faces. The young girl then came upon the four that helped changed her life: Rum Tum Tugger, Jemima, Demeter,
and Munkustrap. Rum Tum Tugger was the first to embrace her as a single tear dripped down his face, “I’m gonna
miss you kid.”
She gave him a slight peck on the cheek as she responded, “So am I.”
The girl then moved towards the grief-stricken Jemima, her paws clenched in a tight fist. Sakura and the feline embraced
each other as Jemima spoke, “I wish you didn’t have to do this.”
“I have to, just stay strong okay?”
The young queen sniffed as she nodded in silent reply.
She then came upon her guardians, feeling a lump going into her throat. Demeter embraced the child tightly, too grief stricken
to speak as the child released her grip and said, “I’ll be all right, you’ll see.”
The child finally faced Munkustrap, who was trying to hold back the tears as he knelt to her height and held her tightly,
not willing to let her go. Sakura buried her face into his fur as she spoke, “I have to do this, it’s the only
way you guys won’t get hurt.”
“There must some other way-“
“There isn’t; but I won’t forget you, you’re one of the most important people to me. If you do find
a way to help me, just be careful.”
He tearfully kissed her cheek as she slowly pulled away from his embrace. The child then turned towards the creature as she
spoke in a shaky voice, “I’m ready.”
“About time.”
A dark ball of energy quickly surrounded her and the minions, causing the Jellicles to back away in fright. Then in a flash,
they were gone. Munkustrap felt as if his heart was torn out of him, his paw tightening into a fist while Demeter cried onto
his shoulder. In the back of his mind he thought, “Just wait Sakura; we’ll find a way to save you and find a
way to get rid of this Lucifer, just stay strong.”
The dark energy field had finally lifted as Lucifer and Sakura made it to the new updated hideout. She felt a shiver run
through her body as the enormous feline glanced down at her; just his stare made her legs quiver. Clasping her shoulder roughly
he spoke in a tone that made her blood freeze, “It’s strange that you willingly gave yourself up to me without
even a fight, why is that?”
She glanced up at him, trying not to scream, “I already told you, it was the only way the Jellicles wouldn’t get
hurt.”
His grip began to tighten, causing her to wince in pain, “There’s another reason, isn’t there?”
She pursed her lips into a thin line, not wanting to reveal anymore secrets. His eyes narrowed into a glare as he tightened
his grip more, causing the child to fall on one knee in a small yelp, “You better respond to my question, the pain will
only get worse.”
She narrowed her eyes at him despite the pain, only revealing two words, “Bite me.”
In one swift motion he backhanded the child, causing her to tumble a few times before she came to a screeching halt. A small
trickle of blood dripped from her lips, staining the ground near her; as she struggled to stand though, Lucifer had already
grabbed a fistful of her hair and pulled her up to her feet with a snarl, “Stay silent about your answer then, I’ll
know soon enough what it is before the ceremony tomorrow.”
The child glanced at him in question, “What ceremony?”
He gave a sneer as he held his grip on Sakura, “You should know what it is, but let me jog your memory for a moment.
It is known as ‘The Ceremony of Darkness’, a ritual which only happens every one thousand years. It has been
preordained that when someone of the light carries one of the pendants, a master of the dark arts will sacrifice the carrier
and use dark magic to take control of the pendant. Afterwards, the world will finally be reborn to the darkness and the light
shall cease to exist.”
She clenched her fists tightly, trying to control her emotions as she retorted, “It won’t work! Somehow you’re
so-called ‘ceremony’ will fail and you won’t succeed.”
He gave a loud laugh as he finally released the child, “Strong words for such a meek creature. But face the facts,
your Jellicle friends don’t know the location of this place, so it is useless to hope that you’ll be rescued anytime
soon.”
With a wave of his paw, two of him minions grabbed the child and dragged her to a custom made prison. Once she was thrown
in the door was quickly locked and the creatures left her alone. Once they were gone, Sakura curled herself up into a small
ball, still withholding the secret that no else knew, not even the Jellicles. In the back of her mind though, she regretted
leaving her new family and thought, “I’m sorry everyone; I had to do this. But please, come for me soon.”
The Jellicles were gathered around the old tire, still in shock of what had occurred. Munkustrap had decided to call the
meeting to discuss a plan to save their newest member; his anger did not cease though at the cruel smile of Lucifer, he had
taken from him someone he cared for dearly and he wasn’t going to let him get away with it. Once everyone had settled
down, he called the meeting to order, “Jellicles! Hear me! Tonight, one of our own was taken from us by force, which
is unforgivable. Sakura gave in willingly, afraid that Lucifer would wipe us out. We must find a way to save her and get
rid Lucifer once and for all. Are there any suggestions?”
Each feline glanced at one another, not knowing what to say or do. Cassandra was the first to speak, “Why don’t
we fight magic with magic? Mistoffelees is the only other magical Jellicle we know of.”
The magical feline sighed in response, “As true as that may be, Lucifer-I could sense-was trained in the dark arts for
quite some time. And unfortunately I’m still learning to control my powers.”
A mummer of fear broke out among the tribe, until Mugojerrie surprisingly spoke up, “C’mon people! This is Sakura’s
life we’re talkn’ about! There’s gotta be a way to help her!”
Rum Tum Tugger’s eyes suddenly widen as he stood to speak, “Something just came to me people! While we were doing
research yesterday, I came upon this spell that could probably help us out! And who better for the choice then Mistoffelees?”
Ecetra hugged her idol in excitement as she spoke, “That’s why you’re the Tugger!”
“So true darling.”
Mistoffelees once again spoke up, “Is it a spell I can actually understand?”
“Yep! And who knows, maybe it’ll help with your powers.”
Munkustrap gave his brother a hearty clap on the shoulder with a smile, “I have to admit, this is one of the smartest
and selfless acts you’ve done.”
The golden-mane feline gave him his signature grin and said, “What can I say? I know how much Sakura means to you bro.”
The protector nodded in response and turned back to the other Jellicles, “Then it’s sett-“
Rumpleteazer quickly interrupted him with a shout, “Hold it! We gotta find out first where this Lucifer guy is! As
far as we know, he could be on the other side of the world!”
Tantomile and Corpicat, in unison, were next to speak, “You forget, we are somewhat magical ourselves. If you give
us some silence first, we will be able to locate Sakura with our physic powers.”
A hush ran over the crowd as the twin cats suddenly stood stock still, sensing the tremors in the air and the aura around
them. The small tribe watched in fascination as they moved and acted as one. Their eyes quickly flew open as they spoke
once more in unison, “She is at Macavity’s old hideout, but we must make haste; Lucifer is already preparing for
a dark ritual of some sort.”
Munkustrap tighten his paws together, knowing that they had to act fast, and to act soon. He turned his brother as he asked,
“Tugger, do you have that spell with you now?”
He grinned as he pulled a piece of folded paper from his belt, “Got ya covered.”
The protector placed the folded paper into the magical feline’s paws, praying in the back of his mind that he hoped
he knew what he was doing. As Mistoffelees glanced at the spell, a smile crept up from the corners of his mouth. He carefully
tucked the piece of paper into his bow-tie like collar and began to chant the words softly, but loud enough so the other Jellicles
could hear. The tips of his paws began to suddenly crackle and pop with different types of light, making some of the Jellicles
a little weary. All of a sudden, a bright light filled the night sky, making the tribe cover their eyes; when they had uncover
their eyes, they were surprised to find themselves to be covered by strange illuminating armor and strange weapons as well.
Exotica was the first to speak, “What is all this Misto?”
“It’s a protection spell, and a very powerful one at that. It’ll shield us from some of the most powerful
of dark magic; and hopefully it’ll help us defeat Lucifer.”
The protector suddenly heard some familiar footsteps; he turned around to see Old Deuteronomy heading towards them. He leapt
of the tire as he confronted the leader, “What is it father?”
“You do realize you and the tribe are heading towards a very dangerous situation in order to rescue the child?”
“I’m well aware of that, but I know, somehow, we’ll be all right.”
The leader smiled as he embraced his son and many of the other Jellicles as he spoke, “All of you be careful, you have
my blessings.”
Munkustrap to the lead as the other felines followed him into the unknown, praying that they would make it in time.
The first rays of light blinded Sakura, stirring her from her slumber. She had not slept well do to all the activity that
was around her, that and due to the fact Lucifer kept eyeing the cage every hour. But she still had her secret that even
he didn’t research; she was just waiting for the right opportunity. One of the minions suddenly swung the cage door
open, making her jump slightly. It then grabbed her arms roughly and was thrown at the feet of the enormous feline. The
child glanced up into his sneering face as he spoke, “It’s time.”
He roughly grabbed a fistful of her hair once more and dragged her to what looked like a stone table, surrounded by black
candles and a few minions that they were chanting quietly. In one swift motion he swung her until the table and a shot of
pain ran up and down her spine. She stifled her scream as she was quickly tied up, ignoring the pain that went through her
body. Lucifer slowly sauntered to the rear, holding in his paws a black book and a long knife that gleamed crimson red.
The child swallowed hard as he began to chant another spell, causing a dark portal of some sort to hover above them. He then
placed the book down and gave her a cold smile, “Tell me young one, what is this secret you hide? If you tell me, your
death will be swift and painless. If not, it shall be slow and painful.”
The child narrowed her eyes and spat right into his face, causing him to snarl in anger. Between his clenched teeth he spoke,
“Have it your way.”
He raised the knife high into the air, the blade hovering over her heart as it slowly descended towards her. Sakura closed
her eyes tightly, thinking of only one thing in the back of her mind, “Munkustrap, I’m sorry!”
A painful yowl escaped the creature’s mouth, allowing the child to open her eyes to see what the problem was. She felt
her heart skip a beat when she noticed it was Rum Tum Tugger shoving a knife-like object into his back. He then leapt of
the creature’s shoulders and side-kicked him in the face, causing him to topple over. He gave his signature smile as
he asked, “Did you miss me?”
“Tugger!”
With the knife-like object he cut through the ropes quickly and helped her off the stone table. She then noticed the entire
Jellicle tribe attacking the minions while a few aimed at Lucifer; she couldn’t believe what she was seeing, all of
them we’re risking their lives to save her. Her thoughts were interrupted when she felt her rescuer’s arms lift
her from the ground and dodged from an attack. Landing with such grace, he set the child down as he spoke to her in a serious
tone, “Stay here!”
Before she could reply, he was already off. Clenching her pendant tightly, she knew what she had to do, and sitting around
feeling useless wasn’t one of them. The ankh began to glow brightly as she picked up a nearby piece of sturdy lumber
and went straight towards the action. Left and right she quickly knocked the minions off their feet with no mercy and no
remorse. The child suddenly spotted Jemima being surrounded by the enemy, she was easily outmatched. In one swift motion,
she skidded in between them and fought them off hard with her weapon.
The young queen smiled as she replied, “Thanks Sakura! I owe you one!”
Before she could reply, one of the minions was heading towards them in a head on head collision. When Sakura prepared to
attack though, Demeter was two steps ahead of her as she tackled it to the ground. Glancing over her shoulder she replied,
“We’ll take it from here, you go help Munku!”
“Why?”
“He’s fighting Lucifer one on one!”
Her eyes widen with shock, not realizing what he was doing. Acting quickly, she ran towards the battle ground where the protector
and the monster were fighting in a great mortal combat. The silver tabby snarled as he swiped his strange weapon left and
right, but the black feline easily dodged his attacks with ease. Lucifer suddenly chanted a small spell and blasted a ball
of energy at the opponent; luckily for Munkustrap he quickly dodged the attack thus suffering a minor graze on his shoulder.
He winced a little at the pain as he snarled in reply, but it didn’t phase the enormous feline one bit. He formed another
energy ball, one that he wouldn’t be able to dodge, and fired without hesitation. The protector prepared himself for
the worse, until he saw the human form block the shot with only a piece of lumber and the power of the ankh. He gaped at
her in surprise as she spoke, “Don’t think I’m letting you and the others have all the fun; Lucifer is just
as much a threat to me then to the rest of you.”
He tried to form some words to say, but not before Lucifer once more backhanded the child to the side. The silver tabby quickly
went to her aid as he asked, “Are you all right?”
She coughed up a small pool of blood but gave a comforting smile, “I’ll be fine, don’t worry about me.”
He noticed the enormous feline aiming his attack at the duo; without hesitation he lifted her into his arms and quickly dodged
it. Sakura suddenly slipped out of his arms and ran towards the creature full force. Left and right she aimed at the weak
points of most enormous rivals, causing him to collapse to his knees. This was the Jellicles chance to destroy the creature
once and for all; all of them quickly formed around him and suddenly aimed for the kill. But something happened that they
didn’t expect, a type of energy field surrounded the creature thus knocking them off their feet. Sakura stared in shock,
trying to understand how it was possible. It suddenly occurred to her, as she felt around her neck, that he had the pendant
in his possession. He grinned in sick satisfaction as he aimed for the protector once more; Munkustrap was barely recovering
from the assault when he suddenly saw a pair of claws heading straight towards him. Before he could react though, he saw
a small silhouette shielding him as it took the hit. He suddenly recognized the small human form as a spackle of blood spattered
everywhere. Sakura gasped in pain as she held onto the lumber for balance, the pool of crimson pain forming around her.
The protector grasped her arms gently, trying to figure out what to do in such a delicate situation. Her glassy eyes gazed
at him for a moment as she gave a surprisingly small laugh, “Don’t worry, I know something that he doesn’t
know.”
Before he could ask what, the Jellicles stood their ground as Lucifer raised the pendant high in the air stating, “Do
you now see? You have no way of defeating me now that I posses the power to plunge this world into darkness! Prepare yourselves
for eternal night!”
All of a sudden, the ankh became boiling hot as it burned a mark into his paw, causing him to howl in pain and to drop the
pendant to the ground. The necklace, unknowingly, moved by itself as it returned to the owner’s neck. Lucifer could
only gawk in confusion, wondering what had gone wrong. He suddenly saw the child struggling to stand as she gave a small
laugh, “I guess you overlooked one thing Lucifer; according to some of the other ancient text that was hidden for centuries,
the one who bears the pendant at birth is the one that can control a hidden power, not by dark magic. In other words, you
lose.”
His eyes widen in shock as a strange aura formed around her, her piece of lumber suddenly forming into a long sword. The
tribe stared in awe as she stood her ground, there wasn’t a hint of fear or pain in her eyes anymore. Even with the
pain still throbbing on her back, she couldn’t feel a thing. Lucifer was suddenly aware that he was unable to move,
weather from fear or magic, he couldn’t move a muscle. Suddenly, the child let out a cry for justice as she charged
head on towards the frozen feline, her sword reflecting the light of the sun. He struggled to move from his position, not
wanting to die by the hand of a human child. But it was futile; Sakura took a great leap into the air and plunged the cold
steel into his chest, piercing his heart straight through. She panted in exhaustion as she gazed at him with glassy eyes
and remarked, “I win.”
As she pulled the sword from his body, he cried out in pain as he suddenly began to disappear into thin air and the dark magic
ceasing to exist. The minions quickly realized that they were in great danger without a leader to guide them; reacting quickly
they scattered away from the Jellicle tribe, never to be heard from again. Munkustrap stared at Sakura in surprised, still
amazed at the strength she had been hiding all along. The aura surrounding her suddenly disappeared, and the pain quickly
returned causing the child to double over as blood dripped from her wounds. As she fell to the ground, her vision became
blurry as the protector ran towards her, until her entire world was engulfed in darkness.
Sakura could swear she could hear voice, despite the fact that it sounded warp and her vision was still somewhat blurry.
One of them sounded like a familiar Scottish accent, “I hope that she’ll be all right, she took quite a hit from
those claws.”
She heard another voice that sounded like an older female, “I’m sure of it dear; she’s a strong girl.”
A blinding light made her moan in response, but the images became clear to her as she saw the faces of Skimbleshanks and Jennyanydots
fussing over here with bandages and medicine. A stab of pain brought a reminder of what had happened, feeling around her
neck she gave a quite sigh in relief that she got her necklace back. Slowly she turned her head towards the railway cat’s
direction as she asked softly, “What day is it?”
He turned around in surprise, but smiled as he responded, “Good! You’re finally awake lass! How do you feel?”
“Really, really sore. But you didn’t answer my question…”
“You’ve been out for almost three days. You took a pretty hard hit from that feline.”
She gave a small laugh as she spoke, “I remember. What about Munkustrap? Is he all right?”
Before he could respond, the protector entered into the room with a smile on his face, “I’m fairing well.”
Sakura smiled as she carefully sat up, the pain throbbing through her body. The silver tabby sat on the bed and steadied
her gently so he could see her eye to eye. He cupped her face as he spoke, “I was pretty worried when I saw you take
that hit for me, but I was amazed that you still held your ground despite the odds. I’m very proud of you, and relieved
that you’ll be all right.”
The child gave him a wide grin as she wrapped her arms around his neck, “I knew you would be.”
Suddenly more visitors entered into the room, all of them in excitement that Sakura was on a quick road to recovery.
Jemima nuzzled the top of her comrade’s head while Demeter held her in a motherly type of way. Rum Tum Tugger was
the final visitor as he sat on the edge of the bed, “So, you’ll be back on your feet soon?”
“Yep, and then I can finally make that wish.”
He gave a hearty laugh as he spoke, “That’s good to hear, I’m glad that you’ll be all right.”
Then to her complete surprise, he gave her a light kiss on the cheek, causing her to blush. In the back of her mind she thought,
“I guess there’s still hope yet for Tugger and me.”
Of course that was just a fantasy she had in mind. All at once Jennyanydots shooed everyone out except for her guardians
who stayed behind. Once the trio was alone, the two felines sat on both sides of her as she replied, “So I’m
guessing you guys are staying for tonight?”
Demeter sighed as she scooted on the bed next to her, “Of course, until tomorrow when you can make that wish.”
The child gave a small smile as she responded, “Sounds good to me, and I know all of you will be surprised.”
Munkustrap gave a small chuckle as he climbed onto the other side, “In the meantime, you need your rest, tomorrow will
be a big day for you.”
She nodded in replied as she rested her head against his chest, falling asleep to the lullaby of his heartbeat.
They next day arrived quicker then they expected. The Jellicles were buzzing with excitement as they watched Old Deuteronomy
escort the child onto the tire. Sakura on the other hand was quite nervous, hoping that everything would go well. The leader
silenced them with a wave of his paw as he began to speak, “Today we shall witness a great moment in history, and we
pray that it shall be a joyful choice that Sakura makes. No matter what happens, she will always be apart of our family.”
He quickly stepped aside as she gazed into the faces of her guardians, and winced in pain from the yet-to-be-healed claw marks.
She closed her eyes tightly and whispered into the pendant her wish, so softly that no one could hear her. Once she was through,
the ankh suddenly illuminated a bright light, surrounding her entire body thus causing the Jellicles to somewhat panic. Munkustrap
calmed the tribe down as he spoke, “Please! I’m sure that it is nothing to fear!”
As they settled, a familiar yet musical tune reached into their ears, a tune that hadn’t been sung since Grizabella’s
descendant to the Heavyside Layer, “Mermory. Turn your face to the moonlight. Let your memory lead you, open up enter
in. If you find there the meaning of what happiness is, then a new life, will begin.”
As the light faded, all of them sighed in relief that Sakura appeared unharmed, her tail twitching in satisfaction….
A tail?! The Jellicles quickly realized that it wasn’t the same person from before. Sakura’s appearance had
changed completely, taking on the look of what reminded everyone of a younger Grizabella despite the fact that the coat was
a shade darker, and her wounds were completely healed. Even more surprising, the pendant that was once her necklace was now
her collar, but without the powers. Old Deuteronomy smiled as he asked, “Is this what you wanted Sakura?”
She gazed at the leader with a smile, “Yes, I wanted to apart of a family again, and so this was the result.”
The new and improved young feline turned towards her guardians who smiled warmly at them as she spoke, “All I have to
say now is this; thank you for taking me in when no one else would.”
Suddenly, she leapt off the tire in a feline-like manner and landed gracefully into Munkustrap’s arms. She nuzzled
under his chin as he spoke, “Welcome to the family young one.”
“Thanks, dad.”
That comment made his heart melt, and the Jellicles responded in the same way as they rejoiced of her transformation. As
she danced with the other Jellicles in a small group, she could only imagine what the future had planned for her for the rest
of her days.
The End
